The following instructions describe how to set up Arlo to send surveys, allowing you to make use of extra data about your courses (custom variables) in SurveyMonkey, and retain a consistent look on your course-related communication to registrants.
If you set up your SurveyMonkey integration with Arlo prior to November 2018, you will need to disconnect and reconnect your SurveyMonkey integration to enable the reminders feature.
- From the System-wide survey settings section, for Integration type, click Edit.
- Select Surveys are sent through Arlo.
- Select the Custom variables you would like Arlo to send to Survey Responses. Arlo recommends the following settings:
Learn more about custom variables.
- Select the default survey options for new courses that you wish to use.
- From the Default survey settings section, enter the default text for the email subject and content, using replacers.
- Click Enable if you would like email reminders for your surveys to be enabled on your platform.
Learn more about email reminders.
- Click Edit and review and amend the default subject and email body text for the reminders. All new courses and templates with surveys enabled will inherit these settings.
- From the Email reminders section, select the default reminder schedule for your new courses and templates. You can enable up to three of reminder emails.
- Press Save and close.
- Press Save.
In most cases, we recommend having the surveys sent via Arlo, unless you need to use SurveyMonkey's recipient tracking features to see who has opened your surveys.
Reminders are not available if you are sending surveys from SurveyMonkey.
- From the System-wide survey settings section, on Integration type, select Surveys are sent through Survey Monkey.
- Select the default survey options for new courses that you wish to use.
- From the Default survey settings section, enter the default text for the email subject and content, using replacers.
- Press Save.
In surveys sent with Arlo's SurveyMonkey integration, you can use replacers to pull in dynamic information about the course and contact into the email, for example, the course name and the survey link, and a link to opt out of these emails.
SurveyMonkey includes a powered by SurveyMonkey footer at the bottom of the emails.
You can turn off the footer to hide SurveyMonkey branding from your survey in each of your surveys, messages, or embedded surveys if you're on the SurveyMonkey Gold plan or above. This needs to be done on each course, and cannot be done on the default template.
Learn how to turn off the footer message in SurveyMonkey.

The default survey options for new courses saves you time and potential errors by selecting the option that should be selected when adding surveys to courses.
- Collate responses to an existing survey should be used where you want to collate all feedback across multiple courses on a single survey template, allowing you to report on feedback across a set of courses.
- Create a new survey from one of your existing surveys should be used where you want to store feedback for each course separately in SurveyMonkey. Arlo will create a copy of the survey for each course.
- Create a new survey from a SurveyMonkey template should only be used if you don't have your own survey template.
- Select No default configured if you wish for no option to be selected so that admins have to choose an option each time (helps to stop you accidentally using an incorrect default).
- Select Disable by default if you wish to have surveys off by default (e.g. if you only send surveys on some of your courses).
Custom variables are used to send data about the courses to SurveyMonkey, and tracking data back to Arlo, depending on which you select.
This information is sent to SurveyMonkey, which you can then export with your survey responses. This allows you to accurately track and filter feedback based on course dates/venues/presenters etc, and you to run registration reports in Arlo, and view who has and has not responded to surveys, and also when their response (if any was received).

Custom variables are only supported on certain SurveyMonkey plans, see SurveyMonkey's plan page for more details.
- Open the Settings menu item.
- From the Marketing section, select SurveyMonkey.
- Click Disconnect.
