Arlo allows you to set and accept deposits during checkout. This allows your customers to pay part of the total price of the course upfront to secure their registration, and then pay the balance at a set time in the future.
- Open the Settings menu item.
- Select Payment methods.
- In the Deposit settings section, tick Enable deposits.
Deposits can only be enabled if the credit card payment method is set up, with an associated gateway.
- Open the Settings menu item.
- Select Payment methods.
- In the Deposit settings section, click to Edit the deposit settings.
- In the Deposit settings section, enter the Default deposit rate.
- In the Payment due dates section, choose the settings for Order dates and Payment due dates.
Learn more about payment due date settings.
- In the Website options section, enter the messages that you would like to be displayed during the checkout process.
These will replace the messages that are usually displayed when the credit card payment method is selected.
- Press Save or Save and close.
When enabling deposits, you can enable deposits at template level, course level, and for individual sessions and options separately. The deposit settings can be found in the Price section of each item.
If you enable deposits on a template, the deposits settings will not be automatically applied to any scheduled courses on that template.
- Navigate to the Price section of the item you would like to apply a deposit to.
- Tick Enable deposits.
- If required, change the deposit amount from the platform default. The expected amount of the deposit is displayed.
The amount of the deposit can be affected by any registration discounts that are applied, so it may be different from the amount displayed.
- Continue creating your template/course or, if editing an existing, press Save or Save and close.
You can use the Deposits enabled view on the course list to quickly see any courses that have deposits available.
To learn how to manage your list views, visit our find courses and course templates help article.
If deposits are enabled for a course and you are using one of our website integrations, e.g. Javascript Web Controls or WordPress plugin, you can display the course deposit using one of the following methods.
Special course note
- Find the course you have enabled a deposit for and press Edit to edit the course.
- Press Website to navigate to the website settings of the course.
- In the Website course content section, click Add to add a Special course note to the course.
If you do not see the Special course note field in your courses' website settings, it may be disabled. Please Contact Arlo Support to enable this field for you.
- Enter the deposit message you want displayed.
- Your special course note will display on the website.
Website content section
Only use this method if ALL courses for a specific template have the deposits functionality enabled, as website content sections are displayed at the template level.
- Add a new website content section called Deposit available (or similar).
- Find the course you have enabled a deposit on and press Edit to edit the course.
- Press Website to navigate to the website settings of the course.
- Enable the new content section you have created for deposits, and add some informative text to explain that deposits are available on this course.
- Press Save. Your deposit website content section will display on the course template page.
Website categories
Only use this method if ALL courses for a specific course template have deposits functionality enabled, as website categories group by Template.
- Create an additional website category called Deposits available (or similar).
- Add any course templates that support deposits to the new Deposits available category and save changes.
- Your registrants can now filter courses by those with deposits available against them.
If deposits are enabled for an course, your customers will be able to select whether they want to pay a deposit or the full amount. If they select to pay a deposit, they can see the amount of the deposit and the amount that they will be required to pay later, in the checkout.
As the deposit must be paid in the checkout, if customers opt to pay a deposit, the Payment method will be greyed out and automatically set as Credit card.
If there are multiple items on an order (such as sessions, options, or multiple registrations), or the registration has discounts applied, the deposit amount may not match the expected amount (i.e. if an course allows a deposit of 10% and a discount of 50% applies, the checkout will calculate the deposit on the remaining amount, not the original amount).
