This article shows you how to create different types of discounts to achieve your course pricing structure. It includes suggested settings for common discount types and pricing structures.

Discounts are not supported on individual session prices on courses with multiple sessions, i.e. discounts can only be applied to the course level pricing.
No criteria discounts are discounts that are applied automatically to all website orders, irrespective of the registrant's details, the order details, or the course. They are useful if you want to discount some or all of your courses during a specific time frame, e.g. 20% off all courses over the Christmas period.
Time-based discounts can be used to provide early bird discounts (for people who register prior to a specific time frame before an course, e.g. at least 30 days prior to the start of a course) or last minute discounts (for those people who register within a certain time frame before a course, e.g. within 7 days of the start of the course). These time-based discounts are available on courses (and will appear in website price lists) during the time period that you set.
Due to the nature of these discounts, there is no requirement to set an availability period for these discounts, as they are only available during the specified time frame.
Arlo allows you to easily set up discounts which will be applied automatically based on the information the registrant enters in the checkout. The discount is applied before the order is submitted so the purchaser knows the price they need to pay.
In order for this discount type to be applied the registrant must enter information that meets the required criteria during checkout, or have this information already stored in their contact record.
This type of discount can be used to provide discounts for specific organisations (using the email domain) or other contact information (such as city, state, or postcode).
With Arlo, you can set up group booking discounts. This type of discount allows you to offer a discount based on the number of registrants on an order for either a single course, or all courses. You can also set the discount to be applied where an order reaches a certain amount (order discount only).
The reason that this is possible is that Arlo automatically detects the number of registrants on the order before the order payment stage, allowing discount details to be added to invoices and payment totals.
This discount type can be set up either as an order, or a registration level discount and it is important to understand the difference between the two types of discounts before deciding how you would like to proceed.
We recommend registration discounts, as order discounts can cause reporting complications.
Arlo allows you to use Yes/No and checkbox fields for both contacts and organisations as a criteria for discounts. This allows you to provide discounts for a variety of reasons, provided the options are yes/no (or true/false). For example, you could provide a graduate discount if the value in a contact's Graduate yes/no field equals Yes, or you could provide a membership discount if an organisation's Member checkbox is ticked.
Using this type of discount you are able to include the field on the registration form, for the registrant to complete as part of the checkout or, in the case of membership discounts, you can add the information into a contact or organisation's record and Arlo will recognise that the field value is true for that record and apply the discount.
Arlo allows you to import a list of membership numbers so that you can create a discount that will apply automatically when a registrant enters a membership number contained in that list.
If you need to remove members from the list, you can also update existing lists using the data list importer.
